St. Joseph High School is an English Medium School established and managed by the Poona Diocesan Educational Society. It is recognized by the Government of Maharashtra and comprises of ten standards, besides the pre-primary classes, and prepares pupils, primarily, for the Secondary School Certificate (S.S.C.) Examination of the State of Maharashtra.

St. Joseph High School is a Christian minority school which aims at giving an all-round education: academic, physical, moral and spiritual - primarily to Catholics, for whose education the institution has been established and also to other children irrespective of religion or race in so far as in consonant with Catholic principles.

All subjects are taught through the medium of English, Marathi is taught from Std. I and Hindi is taught from Std. IV.

The school is named after St. Joseph. Being the patron of the school, St. Joseph is a model of living for its staff and students, for he was a just and wise man, who lived out his deep faith in God.

It is a co-educational institution. The syllabus followed is that prescribed by the Department of Education, Maharashtra.

• 1] Catholic pupils are responsible to the School Authorities for the performance of their religious duties. Toppriority will be given to religious instruction and character formation.
• 2] Irregular attendance at school, habitual laziness, disobedience, dishonesty or conduct injurious to the moraltone of the school, within or without are sufficient reasons for the dismissal of a student.
• 3] Any damage done in class or in the school premises has to be made good. Pupils must take care of theequipment that has been lent for their use.
• 4] The school will not be responsible for the loss, damage or robbery of a pupil's belongings. It is not advisablefor pupils to bring money or valuable articles unnecessarily to school.
• 5] No collection for any purpose whatsoever will be made without the prior permission of the Principal.
• 6] No books ( other than text or school library books), newspapers or periodicals may be brought to the schoolwithout the Principal's permission.
• 7] No pupil is exempted from games and Physical Training without a medical certificate. The period of exemption should be specified.
• 8] Pupils are strictly forbidden to buy anything from street hawkers. No child should leave the school premisesduring the short recess.
• 9] No gift of any kind a teacher is allowed without the previous consent of the Principal.
• 10] The school uniform must be worn daily and the PT uniform on Mass PT days.
• 11] Any communication (request or complaint) made by the parents should be addressed to the Principal and not to the class teacher. All correspondence from the school to the parents must go through the Principal and vice versa.

• The Principal's permission is required for following :
• 1] To make a collection for any purpose whatsoever.
• 2] To arrange for a party, picnic or meeting.
• 3] To join a sports meet or play in games not arranged by the school.
• 4] To give presents to teachers or to stage demonstrations in their honour.
• 5] To bring books, periodicals or newspapers into the school premises.
• 6] To impose fines.
• 7] To give or take tutions.
• 8] To send students out of school during class hours.
• 9] To join sports clubs or associations or to take part in matches or competitions organized by any association.

• St. Joseph Ex-Students Association, Solapur (JESA) was formed in the year 2002 by Rev. Fr. Joachim Patrick.

• * JESA has taken various activities for the students, ex-students of the school.
• * Main objectives of JESA are to provide a forum for interaction between the ex-students, teachers past and present.
• * JESA has organized JESA Fair, Football Tournaments, Career Guidance Exhibition, Career Guidance Lectures etc. JESA has felicitated retired teachers. JESA has donated for the water treatment plant of the school. JESA has done tree plantation in our School. Its 1st President was Azam Shaikh.

• I take this opportunity to express my deep sense of gratitude to you dear parents, our well wishes, & friends for the valuable support, co-operation, encouragement & help. We always count on your generosity and assistance.
• 1] You, the parents, are the real educators of your children. The school is just a helper, playing a secondary role in this matter. Please, therefore , involves yourself in your children's education, be interested in their homework and studies and give us a helping hand to educate your child effectively.
• 2] Parents are informed that occasional reports and recommendations from teachers are made in the school diary. They are to sign them as a proof that they have read them.
• 3] Parents guardians or other persons are not allowed to see the children or to meet the teachers during working hours without the permission of the Principal. Members of the Staff can be met only by previous appointment or during the recess.
• 4] Except for parents, brothers and sisters, no outsiders, are permitted in the school compound. Parents are responsible for the behaviour of those who come to leave their children to school or take them home or bring them lunch. Any noticed or reported misbehaviour of such persons may mean disciplinary action against the students concerned or even their dismissal.
• 5] Parents themselves should come and meet the Principal or teachers. The Principal and teachers will deal only with parents and not with any other relatives or employees. Parents of students of lower classes should meet the Class Teachers at least once a month.
• 6] Private tuitions are strongly discouraged. If there is a real need, a written permission from the Principal is required to engage a tutor. Teachers are not ordinarily allowed to give tuitions to pupils who are being taught by them.
• 7] The School Diary should be brought to school everyday. Parents should go through it daily and sign the remarks, if any. The Unit Test and Semester Examination results should be scrutinized and signed by the parents.
• 8] The school insists on strict punctuality, regular school attendance, cleanliness in dress, general grooming and fidelity to study and work assignments. Absence from school for merely social functions is strongly discouraged.
• 9] Attendance at school functions such as Children's Day, Teachers' Day, Sports Day, Independence Day, Republic Day, etc. is expected from parents.
• 10]Parents/Guardians are specially requested to notify the school of any change in address/telephone numbers.
• 11]Parents or guardians should, as soon as possible, notify the school authorities or the occurrence of any contagious or infectious disease in their house and the pupil must not be sent to school until all danger of infection is over after the last case in the house, according to the nature of the disease.
• 12]Parents are informed that their children are liable to be sent home, by the Principal, for any of the following reasons :
  
  
  • a] Not wearing the correct uniform.
  • b]For not attending Open House and collecting their child's results.
  • c]Not having a remark, made by the Principal/Supervisor/Teacher in the calendar, signed by the Parent/Guardian.
  • d]Not being on time for assembly or class.
  • e]Repeatedly forgetting to bring books.
  • f]Not having the non-Attendance Record duly signed.
• 13]All fees are due by the 15th of each month. Those who do not pay their fees on time will not be allowed to sit for the exams. Fees for April and May must be paid in March.
• 14]The students of Stds. VIII, IX , X have to attend day and overnight camps organized by the school as per the S.S.C. Board Syllabus.
• 15]No information, permission, etc., will be given on the school phone.
• 16]Parents are advised to be careful about the safety of their children when sending them to school in overcrowded vehicles. This is extremely risky and dangerous. No one should stop or park their vehicles in front of the gate or in a disorderly manner outside the school thus causing inconvenience to the children and to the general public. Rickshaw drivers should be particularly instructed about this.
• 17]The school has a Parents' - Teachers' Association, the constitution of which has been given at the back of this diary. All parents are automatically members of this Association once their child obtains admission, till he discontinues his studies in this school. A membership fee is charged at the beginning of the academic year.
• 18]Parents should take care to fill in all details carefully and correctly on the cover and on the first page of this School Diary as well as on the Leave/ Absence Record. They should also fill in and hand over the Declaration Form at the beginning of the academic year. Parents of new admissions should fill in and hand over the PTA form, too.
• 19]A recent photograph of the child is to be compulsory affixed on the cover of the diary.
• 20]Parents are expected to go through and be familiar with the rules and regulations of this school given in this diary and from time to time through circulars.

A] IN SCHOOL :
• 1] Try to be always friendly with all your classmates.
• 2] Avoid vulgarity in your conversation and behavious.
• 3] Do whatever work is assigned to you cheerfully.
• 4] Help unattended guests who happen to visit the School.
• 5] Always greet your Principal and Staff Members courteously. Always address the Principal as 'Father' and not 'Sir'.
• 6] Rise respectfully when a Father, Staff Member or visitor enters your classroom or passes through it.
• 7] Be courteous to the officials during a game and sportsman like with the opposing team.
• 8] Respect the Rules of the Library and the right of other students to use the books.
• 9] Take an honest pride in keeping the premises of the School clean and tidy inform the Principal of any damage.
• 10] Avoid dropping papers in the School compound or on the stairways; pick up those which you notice/
B]AT HOME :
• 1] Always be obedient and respectful to your parents, be grateful to them for the love and affection they have showered upon you ever since you were a child.
• 2] Be ever willing to help them especially when they want you to do little errands for them.
• 3] Take correction from your parents in a grateful and cheerful manner; it is all meant for your own good.
• 4] Do not be selfish; think of the other members of the family in matter of food or pleasure.
• 5] Treat your servants kindly and with sympathy; remember that their lot is a hard one.
• 6] Do not be noisy and quarrelsome : but try to be gentle, cheerful and polite.
• 7] Remember that study is your first duty. As a student do not neglect your home-work and assignments.
• 8] Draw up a study time-table with the help of your teachers or parents and be faithful to it.
• 9] Remind yourself of your duties to God : prayer will bring Him nearer to your and help you in your needs.
C] EVERYWHERE :
• 1] Be polite to all your elders : assist old and blind persons; respect the rights of others.
• 2] Never travel without tickets; do not cross the railway tracks or travel on the foodboard.
• 3] Look both ways before crossing a road. Help the old and visually impaired o cross the roads.
